“Look Girls! There’s a rainbow in front of us!”
“Wow, Daddy! We’ve made it to the end of the rainbow!” One of the older two girls exclaimed.
“No, I think it’s the beginning of the rainbow. It’s right in front of our car, and going to the right. So, I think it’s the beginning.”
“Awww… you mean there’s no treasure?” Our youngest made that comment, nonchalantly, with her legs crossed and looking back down on her DS game. We all burst out laughing!
By this time we were about 2/3 of the way toward our first destination in the journey across U.S. and Canada. I thought to myself, “This is a good start.” I have seen many rainbows in my life, but never one that started where I was at the time. On this first day of our epic journey, the rainbow was an unexpected blessing from the Lord.
This trip has been planned for some time. Since coming to Canada about a year ago, our family has been planning to see the West Coast of this beautiful country, and to visit our partners and workers. The Lord has blessed us with many appointments that are already made, and those that are still in the making. I imagine we will also have a few meetings that weren’t planned. It will be a great time for us to learn about this great country and what God is doing to bring about His redemptive history, in and through the people of Canada.
We began our journey on the 27th of June by picking up the rental mini-van from Detroit (2014 Kia Sedona with only 722 miles!). On Friday, 28 June, we left our home early in the morning for a nine hour drive to my sister’s house in Maryland. The scene above took place driving through the mountains in Pennsylvania. We arrived at my sister’s around 10 pm. The next morning, I was able to present our ministry to the Korean Speaking Congregation of our sending church. The following morning (Sunday, 30 June), I preached at the English Ministry. It is always nerve-wrecking for me when I am presenting at our sending church – I suppose I am a bit over conscious of the saying, “a prophet is not welcomed in his own home town.” However, last few years have been a blessing for my family and me to visit our church, and it seems The Lord is using us to encourage our brothers and sisters. The Lord is refining this congregation. It is our hope that the Lord will strengthen the faithful and to use this church as He has used her in so many amazing ways in the past.
After celebrating both Canada Day (1 July) and the Independence Day (4 July) in the U.S., we are now beginning our Westward journey. We will take a week to go out to the West Coast to Seattle, WA. Then we will head up to Vancouver, staying in that area for about 10 days. Next stop will be Calgary and Edmonton for about a week. Then to Saskatoon, and Moose Jaw, SK. The final Canadian destination will be Winnipeg, MB. Then we will swing back down to the U.S. to get home by August 7th, so that we can attend a friend’s wedding. The family is excited and apprehensive all at the same time.
Please keep us in your prayers!
